S.A. Resolution #19: Fall 2011 SAFC Appeals

Sponsored by: Adam Nicoletti ‘12

Cornell DDR Club

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

After discussion on Monday evening, the Committee decided that the SAFC did not err by a vote of 0–8−0. Committee members felt that the DDR pads are considered “video games” and therefore may not be funded as an SAFC durable good. In addition, the Committee felt that group’s ignorance of the rule that video games are prohibited expenditures was not an adequate reason to fund the pads. Therefore, the SAFC decision will stand.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Cornell DDR Club for their DDR pads, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Cornell Christian Fellowship

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

After discussion on Monday evening, the Committee decided that the SAFC did not err by a vote of 2–4−2. Committee members felt that since Cornell Christian Fellowship did not provide adequate documentation that the library neither had the books nor would purchase them, the group was correctly denied funding for those items. Therefore, the SAFC decision will stand.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Cornell Christian Fellowship for their book order request, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Sabor Latino Dance Ensemble

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

After discussion on Monday evening, the Committee decided that the SAFC did not err by a vote of 0–7−0. Committee members felt that since adequate documentation (proof of speaker contact and proof of mileage) was not submitted at either of the two opportunities, the group should not be granted additional funding. The SAFC had told the organization of the application inadequacies in advance and gave a second chance to submit documentation, which the organization failed to use successfully. Therefore, the SAFC decision will stand.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Sabor Latino Dance Ensemble for its concert speaker, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Be it further resolved that, the SAFC shall only allocate money if all other funding criteria not considered by the Appropriations Committee are met, including funding caps or other guidelines issues.

Respectfully Submitted,
