Dear Nate,

I acknowledge receipt of GPSA Resolution 7: In Support of Making Cornell a Sanctuary Campus. As you may be aware, on December 22, I responded to this request in a communication to all Cornell students, faculty and staff. I appreciate the GPSA’s thoughtful resolution on this matter, and for your continued advocacy on behalf of marginalized members of our university community.

Sincerely,

Hunter Rawlings

Hunter Rawlings
Interim President, Cornell University
300 Day Hall
Ithaca, NY 14853
Tel: 607-255-5201
www.cornell.edu

From: bounce-121083015-72947682@list.cornell.edu [mailto:bounce-121083015-72947682@list.cornell.edu] On Behalf Of Nate Rogers
Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2016 6:00 PM
To: OA-ACTIONS-L <oa-actions-l@list.cornell.edu>
Subject: [oa-actions-l] GPSA R7: In Support of Making Cornell a Sanctuary Campus

Dear President Rawlings,

It is my pleasure to convey to you Resolution 7: In Support of Making Cornell a Sanctuary Campus.

I'm sure that by now you've seen the petition since it is my understanding that it has already been delivered to your office. This resolution was intended to be more timely, but I admit that due to technical difficulties on my end, you are only seeing it now.

In summary, this resolution is the GPSA's endorsement of the petition and is as close as we can get to signing it as a body. That is also how this resolution was presented.

Statements made by you and Dean Knuth have been encouraging, but I doubt that they will be sufficient in the long-term. I think that over the course of the next year (assuming that by then some moderate level of certainty returns to the direction of America's immigration policy), graduate and professional students will look for periodic reaffirmation that we (Cornell University and the GPSA) are defending their right to study here. They will certainly hold us accountable if we do not.

Sincerely,
Nate Rogers, GPSA President
---
Assemblies Actions Reporting
OA-actions-l@cornell.edu
This list is managed by the Office of the Assemblies.

---
Assemblies Actions Reporting
OA-actions-l@cornell.edu
This list is managed by the Office of the Assemblies.
