Standardizing Resolution Authors and Endorser Rules

• Abstract: Standardizing the use of “endorsers”, “authors”, and “reviewers” on resolutions. It establishes and uses the term “endorsers” rather than “sponsors” in order to communicate that that designation shows support rather than significant contribution.

  Whereas, there has up to this point been no standardized definition for the terms “sponsored by”, “authored by”, and “reviewed by”.

  Whereas, the lack of clarity around these terms has posed an issue for observers who wish to understand what work their representatives have done on the Assembly.

  Be it therefore resolved, starting on line 228, the following shall be inserted into the Student Assembly Standing Rules: 

  D. All resolutions shall contain at the top a list of sponsors labeled ‘sponsored by’, a list of authors labeled ‘authored by’, and a list of committees who reviewed the resolution labeled ‘reviewed by’. These terms shall be defined as follows:

  1. Endorsers are individuals who have committed their support to the resolution. They may have offered minor edits to the resolution, but they did not contribute significantly enough to be considered an author.
  2. Authors are individuals who wrote the resolution, either the whole document or significant portions of it. 
  3. ‘Reviewed by’ refers to committees who considered and passed the resolution. The ‘reviewed by’ field must also include the date on which the committee last reviewed the resolution.

  Be it finally resolved, that all future resolutions follow this format and that the Student Assembly Box be updated with a new draft version of resolutions in a Google Docs format.
