My name is Solomon and I am a freshman at Cornell. I would like to serve on the student assembly to help all students to get what they need. I believe it is important to fully fund cultural clubs even when there is an effort to take away their funding because it isn’t “essential”. Clubs are made up of all people in Cornell, and so funding cuts limit the amazing opportunities Cornell clubs can offer to students. I also would like to work to help provide students with free laundry which exists in many colleges and make the lives of students, especially first-year students, more convenient. In high school, I worked on my local community board which oversees issues in the neighborhood from bike lanes and parks to bars and garbage collection. I also helped to lead my school’s Model UN club and was active in the Public Forum Debate team. This helped me understand the procedures of how governmental bodies function and the best way to make changes that benefit the local community. I would be honored to serve the Cornell student body in the Student Assembly.
