Type of Action: Recommendation
Originally Presented: 04/09/2026
Current Status: Adopted by the Assembly, 18-0-0, 04/23/2026
Whereas, Cornell University maintains numerous websites and digital platforms across departments, colleges, and administrative offices to provide students with information on campus resources, services, and opportunities,
Whereas, the volume and fragmentation of these websites frequently results in outdated, duplicated, or difficult to locate information, requiring students to navigate multiple sources to find answers to straightforward questions,
Whereas, this fragmentation disproportionately affects students seeking time sensitive resources, including campus employment opportunities, mental health services, financial aid, course information, and study abroad programs, who may abandon their search or remain unaware of available support,
Whereas, many undergraduates often lack informal networks to guide them toward the right resources, and are particularly disadvantaged by decentralized and inconsistent digital information platforms,
Whereas, the Student Assembly, through the Technology Committee, has collaborated with Cornell Information Technologies to develop a student-facing software that consolidates multiple university websites into a single, searchable source, and a working prototype is ready for testing,
Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly recommends Cornell Information Technologies formally adopt, test, and deploy the consolidated student resource, and that the university commit to its ongoing maintenance and development as a permanent software for improving student access to institutional information.
