Elisha Cohn, Associate Professor, Literatures in English (College of Arts and Sciences)

Biography: Elisha Cohn is Associate Professor in the Department of Literatures in English. She received her B.A. from University of California Berkeley and her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. Before coming to Cornell in 2011, she was Ahmanson-Getty Postdoctoral Fellow at University of California Los Angeles. She specializes in the. history and theory of the novel, especially in the nineteenth century, and literature and science more broadly. She is the author of Still Life: Suspended Development in Victorian Literature (Oxford University Press), which won the Sonya Rudikoff Prize honorable mention for the best first book in Victorian Studies. Since then, she. has edited the Broadview Press edition of Modern Love, is co-editor of the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of George Eliot, and is currently completing her second monograph, Animal Worlds in Contemporary Fiction
   
   Her teaching and research concern the intersections of literature and science; she is particularly invested in bringing humanities perspectives to pre-professional students in health fields. She won the Russell Distinguished Teaching Award in 2021. Within her department, she is deeply invested in advising, frequently serving as director of placement for graduate student job seekers as well as undergraduate honors thesis writers.   Candidate Statement: I am interested in learning the faculty governance process, and I am especially eager to advocate for legislation that reflects and innovates upon Cornell's wonderfully multi-disciplinary scope.
