    Dear President Rawlings,

I would first like to convey two actions on behalf of BJ Siasoco, chair of the Employee Assembly for the 2015-16 term, along with his apologies for the delay in sending these actions.

EA Resolution 3 is a position statement in response to the Union of White Students sponsored by EA members Nancy Bell, Jeramy Kruser, and Amy Kohut.

EA Resolution 4 urges Cornell University to remove the conviction question (“Ban the Box”) from its job applications, and that Cornell only inquire about applicants’ criminal histories during a background check after a conditional offer of employment is extended. Resolution 4 was sponsored by EA members Shelly Cowles, Linda Majani, Jeramy Kruser. This resolution was also created in partnership with undergraduate students and consultation with Cornell’s Office of Human Resources. The changes went into effect at the beginning of the fisal year.

I would also like to convey EA Resolution 1, the first action of the restructured Employee Assembly for the 2016-17 term.

EA Resolution 1 is a fulfillment of the EA’s responsibility to select three initiatives as described in Toward New Destinations, the University’s institutional diversity and inclusion framework. The resolution and supporting appendix describe the initiatives the Assembly has adopted for the year, the core principles with which they are aligned, and measures of success. The initiatives were submitted to the University Diversity Officers on July 1.

We look forward to a collaborative year. Take care,
    Ulysses

    Ulysses J. Smith
    Chair, Employee Assembly
