Summary / Notes:
Dear President Pollack,
I would like to formally convey to you EA Resolution 2: Fostering Meaningful Employee Engagement. This resolution follows up on the presentation made at the last Board of Trustees meeting and the request by Board Chair, Bob Harrison, to formally send the recommendations made in resolution form to the Board Committee on Composition and Governance.
The resolution reflects the Assembly’s desire to have robust staff engagement at Cornell. Recognizing the important focus on the mission of the institution, the Assembly recommends that the Board formally charge a standing committee to focus on the experience of staff, how staff can engage in the mission of the university, and the impact of decisions on the staff population. The Assembly also recommends that an additional employee-elected trustee be seated to better reflect the diversity of our staff population. Members expressed an interest in ensuring that our employee-elected trustees are both exempt and non-exempt employees.
The resolution passed by a vote of 18-0-1 on June 7, 2017.
Take care,
Ulysses J. Smith
