Dear Acting President Kotlikoff and Acting Dean Fontaine,

I would like to formally convey to you GPSA Resolution 7: Supervisor-Student Relationships. This resolution calls for stricter policies governing relationships which may develop between a student and their faculty adviser or other supervisor. As faculty advisers occupy a position of authority over their students, we feel that romantic relationships between them and their students must be discouraged. We believe that any such relationships that do develop should be reported, and all efforts must be made to ensure the student is indeed consenting to the relationship, is protected from professional repercussions, and is supported should the relationship begin to undermine the student's work.

The Faculty Senate is urged to reconsider this matter, and the GPSA would welcome any invitation to participate in a renewed discussion over this issue.

    Respectfully,
    Richard Walroth
