    Dear Richard:

I appreciate the GPSA’s resolution in support of Assistant Dean Joseph Scaffido. Cornell University strives to promote the peaceful, honest, and responsible exchange of ideas while rejecting, in the strongest terms, any incitement to violence. The heavily edited video released by Project Veritas was a flagrant and malicious attempt to misrepresent these Cornell values.

Vice President Joel Malina and his staff work closely with elected leaders in Albany to communicate the many ways in which Cornell contributes towards New York’s vitality. As a land grant university, Cornell has a special responsibility to the people of this state and we take this responsibility to heart. I’m confident that New York’s elected leaders will not be unduly swayed by a shameful and dishonest smear campaign.

I’ve been advised that this matter is no longer attracting much interest in Albany. Forwarding the resolution to New York State Assembly members Chris Friend and Brian Kolb, and New York State Republican Party Chair Edward Cox on behalf of the University will likely be counterproductive so I am requesting that they be removed from the list of recipients in the final paragraph. I have, however, shared GPSA resolution 9 with Joel and asked that he address any future concerns that Assemblyman Friend, Assemblyman Kolb, or Mr. Edward Cox may have.

    Regards,

    David Skorton
