Dear President Garrett,
I wish to convey to you SA Resolution 22: Developing and Funding Anabel's Student Run Grocery Store. This resolution seeks $320,000 from the Students Helping Students Grant to fund and develop a low-cost student-run grocery store in the basement of Anabel Taylor Hall.
After receiving estimates from Cornell's Project Intake Managers, it appears that the cost of renovating the space will be at the high end of $134,000, instead of the initial estimate of $240,000. Thus, we estimate that the total funding that will be utilized from the Students Helping Students Grant will be $214,000, and that $106,000 will be returned to the Grant unspent. We hope that this will help quell some of the dissent from our peers with regards to a large capital investment being taken from the Students Helping Students Grant.
As per the recommendation of the Campus Community Coordinating Committee last Friday, Emma and Matthew will work with Vice President Lombardi, Cornell United Religious Works, and the Center for Transformative Action to establish a Memorandum of Understanding with regards to the free rent of the space.
We will also continue to work with the Office of Community Relations to consider the community impact of the project. Emma and Matt are grateful of the help that this office provided as they prepared to present to 4C.
The resolution passed by a vote of 14-9-2.
Thank you for the time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Juliana
