Dear President Pollack,It is my pleasure to convey to you Student Assembly Resolution #23: Demanding Cornell Allows Anabel’s Grocery to Reopen for the Spring 2021 Semester.Previously, Cornell administration had prohibited Anabel’s Grocery from operating in its facilities in Anabel Taylor Hall this fall. The Student Assembly formally calls upon the university to allow Anabel’s Grocery to reopen in an effort to address food insecurity that disproportionately affects marginalized students on campus and has been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Student Assembly is appreciative of the opening of the Cornell Food Pantry, but recognizes it is not a completely sufficient substitute for the role Anabel’s Grocery plays in providing fresh and affordable food at subsidized prices to Cornell students. Anabel’s Grocery is prepared to operate safely in the Spring semester and we call on administration to support their reopening efforts.I would like to thank the Anabel’s Grocery Team Members for their hard work in advocating for food insecure students, preparing for reopening, and for bringing this resolution to the Student Assembly. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! Thank you.Best,Cat--
