    Dear President Garrett,

I would like to convey Resolution 26: Promoting Justice and Friendship in the Housing Lottery to you. This resolution is sponsored by Gabriel Kaufman, Erinn Liu, Dustin Liu, and Justin Selig from the Student Assembly and Christian Welling and Patricia Mawn-Malhau from the Residential Student Congress. The resolution suggests a two-part lottery system to guarantee that students can live with their friends, reduce politicking, and give more time to freshmen to select blocking units.

The current housing lottery system incentivizes students to room with those that have time slots earlier in the lottery. The new proposed system aims to have two lotteries one for house choice, and one for room choice, and would change the order one receives a time-slot to be after students had chosen to block together.

The Student Assembly and Residential Student Congress aim to continue working with the Office of Residential and Event Services.

The attached appendix to the Resolution explains the proposed policy in further detail.

Thank you for the time and consideration.

    Kind regards,
    Juliana
