Dear President Garrett,
I would like to convey Resolution 28: Improving Research Matching for Students and Professors to you. This resolution is sponsored by Student Assembly representatives Gabriel Kaufman and Ben Bacharach and Adam Bronfin as a member of the Academic Policy Committee.
The impetus for the resolution comes from students expressing concern that they do not know where to find research opportunities. This resolution recommends that the Cornell administration and students implement a program to fix the research matching process. The resolution recommends that the University consider ResearchConnection or other vendors as a potential option to address this problem, as it matches students with research opportunities, encourages students to become more involved in research and to develop relationships with professors, and saves professors and students time with its skill-matching features by pairing professors who are looking for certain skill-sets with students who can provide such expertise. Although it is somewhat unprecedented for the Student Assembly to recommend an outside company, the resolution sponsors are open to finding the best platform for research connecting. This resolution seeks primarily to address the complicated and opaque process of finding research opportunities, especially outside of students' majors.
Thank you for the time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Juliana
