Summary / Notes:
Dear Acting President Kotlikoff, I would like to convey Resolution 35: Updating the Student Assembly Standing Rules to you. This resolution is sponsored by Student Assembly Executive Vice President, Emma Johnston, and Parliamentarian Berger. The resolution seeks to update our standing rules as a routine function of the Student Assembly. The major changes are as follows: Committee membership is only required for elected Student Assembly Representatives. (Section 2, Rule 3) Amendments to our attendance policy to allow academic, religious, and job/scholarship excuses to be labeled as "excused" rather than "unexcused". As well, the VP for Internal Operations must let representatives know when they are approaching their abstention limits. (Section 2, Rule 5/6/7) Including the Oath of Office language (Section 2, Rule 9) Ensuring that student organizations will be notified if legislation affects their funding or budget (Section 3 Rule, 9) Adding an "Initiatives" section to the Student Assembly general body meetings. A summary of the Initiatives will be sent to the actions listserv. (Section 3, Rule 11) Clearer guidelines are established for abstention from voting (Section 4, Rule 4/5) How representatives should track their outreach to constituencies (Section 7, Rule 2) The approval process for the Student Assembly newsletter should have the final say of the President and VP for Public Relations. After that point, there should be no more additions/deletions (Section 7, Rule 5) Thank you for the time and consideration. Kind regards, Juliana
