SA R42 (2015-2016): Calling for Implementation of Open Syllabi

Deferred by the President

  • Resolution:
  • Day:
    April 11, 2016
  • Action:
    Deferred by the President
  • Summary / Notes:
Dear Juliana, Thank you for sharing S.A. Resolution #42: Calling for Implementation of Open Syllabi. In response to the previous S.A. Resolution 29 Calling for Implementation of Open Course Evaluations, which included within it a similar request for the university to make course syllabi available online, Provost Michael Kotlikoff created the Ad Hoc Open Syllabi and Evaluations Working Group. This group is chaired by the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and is comprised of relevant deans and administrators. It also includes Joseph Fridman, former S.A. member who proposed S.A. Resolution #29. Because S.A. Resolution #42 covers the same issue, it has been included within the responsibilities of the working group. Gabe Kaufman, the sponsor of Resolution #42 has been invited to the next working group meeting. The working group has been making good progress and its efforts have the general support of the college and school deans. The group is working through a number of complex policy and technological issues, but expects to finalize a plan sometime in the Fall 2016 semester. Ethan Stephenson (evs24@cornell.edu) is serving as project manager, and can provide the S.A. with updates as requested. Sincerely, Michael Kotlikoff Provost and Acting President
