Dear President Skorton,
I would like to convey Resolution 43: Addressing Cissexism to you. This resolution was co-sponsored by Shivang Tayal (International Representative and VP for Diversity and Inclusion) and Philip Titcomb (LGBTQ+ Representative).
This resolution aims to make Cornell a more welcoming place for everyone. The resolution asks Cornell keep better track of the LGBTQ+ statuses of applicants, as well as provide students with options outside of the gender binary when filling out intra-university forms and documents. As an Assembly, we understand that this documentation might not look the same for all colleges, departments and offices. Philip and Shivang have discussed this extensively with staff in the following offices:
Department of Inclusion and Workforce Diversity
LGBT Resource Center
Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives
Office of Institutional Research and Planning
The resolution also passed unanimously through SADAC, which includes other members of the administration and faculty. While the sponsors have attempted to contact admissions to discuss their proposal, they heard no response.
The essence of this recommendation is clear and important: we should all be doing everything we can to ensure that every student feels included on this campus.
I have attached some additional materials that the sponsors provided to the representatives. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
Sarah
