Summary / Notes:
Dear Acting President Kotlikoff, I would like to convey Resolution 44: Creation of the First Generation Student Representative to you. This resolution is sponsored by Saim Chaundry, Paola Munoz, and Ewa Przybylko. The resolution creates a First Generation Liaison At-Large who will serve as a full voting member of the Student Assembly. The Student Assembly has historically represented different demographics and first generation students account for 14% of the undergraduate population. The first generation identity is unique to the college experience, considering that its an identity that emerges solely upon matriculation. The representative would address unique needs of First Generation students including admissions, retention, and graduation rates, limited access to social/cultural capital, sense of belonging, and "imposter syndrome", mental health, and how the first-generation identity often intersects with being of a low socioeconomic status. The addition of a First Generation Liaison At-Large would amend the SA Charter. Thank you for the time and consideration. Kind regards, Juliana
