Conveyed to the President

  • Resolution:
  • Day:
    March 21, 2016
  • Action:
    Conveyed to the President
  • Summary / Notes:
Dear Acting President Kotlikoff, I would like to convey Resolution 45: Call for an Asian American Studies Major at Cornell to you. This resolution is sponsored by Diana Li, Linda He, Michael Stewart, Xiao Yin Ma, Emily Dong, Krystel-Mei Chow, and Stephanie Hahm. The resolution seeks to garner the Student Assembly's support for creating and implementing the Asian American Studies minor into a major. Cornell’s Asian American Studies program was amongst the best in the country when it was first founded, and while enrollment in its classes have increased, the available resources and number of professors have decreased. In fact, in recent years the demand for Asian American Studies courses has increased by almost 24 200% since 1998. The sponsors are working towards developing and offering a Bachelor of Arts in the study of Asian American Studies. It is strongly encouraged by sponsors to make it a university-wide major. Thank you for the time and consideration. Kind regards, Juliana
