Dear President Skorton,
I would like to convey Resolution 56: Hands-Only CPR Training for Freshmen to you. This resolution was sponsored by Shayna Ratner, Margaret Davis and Callie Pina from CUEMS, Dr. Paul Stefek from Cayuga Medical Center, and Jordan Berger, Yamini Bhandari, Emma Johnston and Matt Henderson from the SA.
This resolution calls for the utilization of CUEMS' resources to provide students who are already taking the swim test a more comprehensive experience, including Hands-Only CPR training. CUEMS already provides these brief trainings, in addition to full certification programing, to students throughout the year. The additional few minutes this program would add to the pre-existing swim test has enormous potential payoff. If students are unfortunately in situations when these skills are critical, they will have the ability, and confidence, to assist in saving the lives of their fellow Cornellians. This appendix emphasizes the importance of CPR training.
This resolution is currently under review by FACAP (Faculty Advisory Committee on Athletics and Physical Education).
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Best,
Sarah
