    Dear President Rawlings,

I would like to convey Resolution 57: Towards a More Inclusive Learning Experience to you.

This resolution is sponsored by Samari Gilbert ’17, Co-President, Black Students United, Minority Liaison at Large, Student Assembly; Emma Johnston ‘16, Executive Vice President, Student Assembly; Traciann Celestin ‘19, Incoming Minority Liaison at Large, Student Assembly.

This resolution calls for the creation of a comprehensive training program to improve faculty interactions within diverse and inclusive academic settings. The only mandatory faculty diversity training, "Building a Culture of Respect" does not fully address the training needs. According to the members of Black Students United [BSU] they want "all employees of the university, academic and otherwise (including tenured professors), to have appropriate ongoing training (tied to evaluations and payroll) that deals with issues of identity". The Student Assembly is recommending that the Faculty Senate collaborates with BSU and the SA to develop and implement these changes. The sponsors also request that the individual colleges and departments consider best practices related to diversity. The sponsors would like to develop a comprehensive diversity training program.

The associated appendix details the letter from BSU to President Garrett and Vice President Lombardi.

Thank you for the time and consideration.

    Kind regards,
    Juliana
