  • Term:

    Sponsored by: Danielle Donovan ‘25, Ezra Galperin ‘27
    Type of Action: Internal Policy
    Originally Presented: 09/12/2024

    Whereas, The Charter of the Student Assembly grants the Assembly the “authority and the responsibility to examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community”;

    Whereas, The Spring 2024 Report Of The Student Assembly Committee On Student Employment And Wages found that:
    ● Cornell’s student wages fall behind those of its Ivy League peers, as well as peer universities in upstate New York, paying only ~60% of Ithaca’s living wage
    ● Students face significant difficulties in finding and securing student employment due to a lack of transparency, clarity, and accessibility of job postings;

    Whereas, the 2023-2024 Student Assembly recommended the implementation of university policy changes including adjustments to the student wage tier system, increased clarity in job postings, and establishment of a student employment job fair;

    Be it therefore resolved, That there be established an ad-hoc committee known as the “Committee on Student Employment and Wages,” which shall be charged with collaborating with the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment and other relevant university offices to implement recommendations to improve the terms of student employment at Cornell;

    Be it further Resolved, That the Committee on Student Employment and Wages shall be composed of a maximum of twelve members, at least half of whom shall be members of the Assembly, and at least half of whom shall be currently or previously employed by the University;

    Be it further Resolved, That the President of the Assembly shall appoint the members of the Committee;

    Be it finally Resolved, That the Committee’s Chair shall be the Student Workers Representative of the Student Assembly.

    Respectfully Submitted,

    Danielle Donovan ‘25
