    Dear President Skorton,

I would like to convey Resolution 65: Developing and Funding a Student Run Grocery Store to you. This resolution was sponsored by Matthew Stefanko, our Vice President for Finance-elect and Emma Johnston, our Executive Vice President-elect.

Representatives Johnston and Stefanko have been collaborating with different offices across campus this year to establish a student-run grocery store in order to address food insecurity among the student body. With 8% of the student population self-identifying as skipping meals due to financial constraints "often" or "very often" according to the most recent PULSE survey, it is clear that food insecurity is an often overlooked, but incredibly evident issue that Cornell students face every day. The grocery store model would subsidize food insecure students, but would also provide affordable, healthy food choices for all students to purchase. The store will be located in the basement kitchen of Anabel Taylor Hall. The project has encouraged students across campus to collaborate on designing, planning and creating the grocery store. The students who are working with Representatives Johnston and Stefanko to create the store also hope to include healthy cooking classes, pot and pan rentals, and other services to the grocery store's patrons.Â

The resolution seeks to fund the grocery store $360,000 from the Students Helping Students Fund. The Students Helping Students Fund is managed by the Student Assembly's Financial Aid Review Committee, and is intended to provide emergency funds to students in need.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Best,
    Sarah
