Dear President Garrett,
I would like to convey Resolution 9: Extending the Quarter System Review Committee to you. This resolution is sponsored by Spencer Nord and Diana Li (Undesignated at Large Representative. This resolution aims to extend the deadline for the Student Assembly Investigation Committee on the Quarter System.
The quarter system is the academic year's breakdown by degree of exposure to and interaction with potential new members, designed to mitigate risk and allow freshmen time to socially acclimate prior to a decision to join the Greek system. The first quarter bans all contact with all freshmen except fro Greek-wide or council-wide events, the second quarter commences individual chapter interactions, and the third quarter begins with recruitment and followed by the fourth quarter of full membership.
Last semester the committee faced many staffing barriers that resulted in a delay of collecting information to develop conclusions. The newly appointed chairs, Kendall Grant and Diana Li, have staffed a committee representative of the student population and distributed among Greek and non-Greek. The report will be shared with the Student Assembly before the last day of classes in 2016 and can also be shared with the Office of the President.
