Summary / Notes:
Dear Gabe,
Thank you for transmitting UA Resolution #13, "Risley Crosswalk Resolution." I appreciate the continued interest of the UA in the safety of our campus environment and neighboring communities.
As noted in the resolution and acknowledged by Cornell’s Planning and Transportation departments, the Cradit Farm Rd. – Thurston Ave. – Wait Ave. intersection poses elevated risk conditions for pedestrians. The resolution further notes that the alignment of the streets at this intersection defies a simple solution, and that placing a crosswalk may not resolve these unsafe conditions. As this intersection is within the City of Ithaca jurisdiction, staff from the Planning and Transportation Departments intend to engage with the city to determine next steps for possible improvements.
Considering that these discussions are in the early stages, it is premature to establish a timeline for when any potential improvements might be completed. In addition, the Office of Facilities and Campus Services has begun a comprehensive study of transportation issues in north campus, and the Cradit Farm Rd. – Thurston Ave. – Wait Ave. intersection will be analyzed as part of that effort. We expect the results of that study to become available later this fall.
Thank you for your continued engagement and for your work to enhance the safety of our campus.
Sincerely,
Martha E. Pollack
