Summary / Notes:
Dear Gabe,
Thank you for transmitting UA Resolution #15, "Opposing the Merger of the College of Human Ecology and the ILR School." I appreciate that the UA is communicating the opinions of faculty, staff and students with respect to the proposals put forth by the faculty Committee on Organizational Structures in the Social Sciences.
As you may be aware, the SA submitted a virtually identical resolution on May 23. Please see my response to SA Resolution #46. In addition to the recommendations conveyed by the SA, lines 46-48 of the UA resolution ask that Provost Kotlikoff and I withdraw the idea of a merger from consideration. The Provost is engaged in a careful and deliberate process to allow all stakeholders to voice their views, and all input, including that communicated by the UA and the SA, is being taken seriously. To eliminate ideas generated by a faculty committee before this deliberation is complete is contrary to the spirit of community discourse.
Sincerely,
Martha E. Pollack
