Dear Logan,Thank you for submitting University Assembly resolution #28, “Transparency and Accountability into the University’s Process for Certifying Enrollment with the Department of Veteran Affairs” for my consideration. Supporting student veterans’ success and ensuring that they are able to take advantage of Department of Veteran Affairs benefits are high priorities for Cornell. We are working on improving these systems; and there are and will remain opportunities for our student veterans to get involved and in particular we would welcome the direct involvement of some of the resolution sponsors. I have asked Jonathan Burdick, vice provost for enrollment, to provide additional information below.Sincerely,Martha E. PollackMartha E. PollackPresident, Cornell University300 Day HallIthaca, NY 14853www.cornell.edu##Dear Logan,I want to thank the University Assembly for affirming our shared priority of supporting student veterans. In pursuit of this priority, Cornell will strive in all possible ways to align with best practices known to us, including consultations with peer universities and embracing all the principles of “8 Keys to Veterans Success.”Our Office of the University Registrar, Bursar Office and the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment are working on new, improved and automated certification business practices this summer with the goal of making the process of certifying enrollment with the V.A. as transparent and timely as possible.I want to invite the University Assembly to identify up to three resolution sponsors who would be willing to work with us on this project. We look forward to meeting with these leaders at the earliest possible time in the fall semester to explain these new procedures and to enable them to inform others.Thank you again for acting as a voice and advocate for our student veterans.Sincerely,Jonathan Burdick
