Summary / Notes:
Dear Gabe,
Thank you for submitting UA Resolution 3, “Calling for the Development of a Strategic Plan.” I appreciate the input and involvement of the University Assembly in developing plans for the university’s future.
As you note in your conveyance letter, this resolution has much in common with Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GPSA) Resolution 6. My response to GPSA Resolution 6 addresses the four resolved clauses in the UA’s resolution.
Regarding the points in your conveyance letter that are not included in the body of the resolution, Cornell has structures in place to ensure community participation in guiding the university, procedures in which the assemblies play an instrumental role. As I noted in my response to GPSA Resolution 6, most, if not all, new and continuing strategic initiatives rely on the involvement of stakeholders across campus. With this active participation, notably including the active input of the assemblies, the community makes meaningful contributions to the future direction of the university without launching an overarching formal strategic planning process that I continue to believe is not necessary at this time.
Thank you again for your involvement and your ideas.
Sincerely,
Martha E. Pollack
