    University Assembly Members,

I hope you are doing well.

This email is to notify you that we are now holding an email vote for UA Resolution #5: "In Support of Making Cornell A Sanctuary Campus," sponsored by Ranking Member Rina Winarto. This is an unusual method for holding a vote, but one allowed by Robert's Rules and one to which the Assembly agreed at our last meeting given the strict urgency of the matter.

Here are the voting instructions and information:

    1. Attached is the updated version of UA R5 and the associated petition. The blue text has been added and the red text has been removed. Please read the resolution in its entirety.

    2. You are voting on whether or not to approve UA R5. If the motion passes, it will be conveyed to the President of the University. You must cast your vote by Friday, December 16, 2016 at 9:00pm (EST). Votes will not be accepted after that time.

    3. Voting is simple. You cast your vote by replying to this email with (only) one of the following words:
    "Yes"
    "No"
    "Abstain"
    4. The motion requires a simple majority to pass. However, because this is a mail vote, all seated members are counted as present and voting. Therefore, it will require a minimum of ten "Yes" votes to be approved. As per usual, I will vote only in the event that my vote would affect the outcome.

    5. Do not "hit reply all." Simply hit "reply" and enter your one-worded response.

    6. I will send out a personal reminder to those from whom I have not received a vote 24 hours before the voting period closes, and again one hour before the voting period closes.

    7. If you do not respond, your vote will be counted as "abstain."

    8. After the voting period closes, I will announce the results by sending an email to this list serve with the number of ayes, nays, and abstentions. Your names will not be recorded, only the final vote count will be announced.

    9. Please feel free to contact me individually in a separate email chain with questions or concerns.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Best,
    Gabe
