Dear Gabe,
Thank you for submitting UA Resolution 7 – “Requesting Information on the Cost of Carbon Neutrality” – and for your commitment to sustainability at Cornell.
In March, the Senior Leaders Climate Action Group (SLCAG) agreed to provide Provost Kotlikoff with a report by September 1 that includes a menu of options and associated costs for achieving carbon neutrality by 2035. This report will help leadership assess the relative costs and benefits of our choices in the context of Cornell’s academic mission and its ability to achieve the 2035 target for carbon neutrality.
I, therefore, support UA Resolution 7, requesting the SLCAG analysis of costs and relative benefits be made available to the Assembly, per the terms listed in UA R7. In addition, I ask that the UA help SLCAG communicate the report findings to all members of Cornell’s shared governance groups as well as to the student body.
I appreciate your ongoing, vital role as we pursue carbon neutrality goals for the Ithaca campus.
Yours sincerely,
Hunter Rawlings
