Summary / Notes:
Thank you for conveying to me UA Resolution 8: Awareness, Prevention, and Training (APT) Measures Against Opioid Overdose Crises. Access to Narcan—and training on its effective use—is an important component of a comprehensive public health approach to reducing the harms of opioid use. Narcan is currently available via the Cornell Health Pharmacy and through emergency responders, and recently Cornell Health hosted a Narcan training attended by nearly 100 Cornell employees, who each received overdose rescue kits.Cornell Health is already exploring additional trainings that will extend this effort to our community more broadly, in partnership with other campus departments and local organizations (e.g., CUEMS, EMS, Cornell’s Office of Public Safety, Tompkins County Whole Health, and The Alcohol & Drug Council of Tompkins County, Cayuga Addition Recovery Services).Cornell Health is glad to continue to explore a variety of distribution methods to facilitate ready access, and I appreciate the UA’s support of these important resources.Sincerely,Martha E. Pollack
