Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies
Sociology
College of Arts and Sciences
I am an Associate Professor of Sociology and currently serve as the Director of Graduate Studies for Sociology. I study social inequality in the U.S. and how it comes about with a focus on gender, work, education, and health. My work is distinctive for bringing demography to bear on the study of social stratification in order to capture the multidimensionality and dynamics of inequality. How do families come to have certain bundles of resources? How is inequality passed down from parents to children? How does it change across the life course or over time? I also have a portfolio of research on gender beliefs in families from an international comparative perspective.
Candidate Statement:
I have been at Cornell since 2016 and have enjoyed serving on ad hoc committees, where I have had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with colleagues from across the university. I value the important mission of faculty governance and would be glad to contribute my time and energy to supporting this function of our assembly.
