Whereas, Article VI, Section 5.C(b)(iii) of the Bylaws currently charges the Campus Pulse Committee with “Planning, scheduling and running required student assembly anti-bias and transparency trainings for members of the Student Assembly” (Bylaws lines 507–508);
Whereas, Article VIII, Section 2 requires all voting and ex-officio members of the Student Assembly, as well as committee members, to participate in an annual anti-bias and transparency training and currently provides that “The training will be facilitated by the Campus Pulse Committee” (Bylaws lines 747–752)
Whereas, Article VI, Section 5.B establishes the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee as the body responsible for coordinating efforts to promote awareness and understanding of diversity, fostering diversity of thought, and developing implementable policies concerning diversity and inclusion (Bylaws lines 461–475);
Be it therefore resolved, that Article VI, Section 5.C(b)(iii) of the Bylaws be amended by deleting the following current language:
“Planning, scheduling and running required student assembly anti-bias and transparency trainings for members of the Student Assembly” (Bylaws lines 507–508)
Be it further resolved, that Article VI, Section 5.C(b)(iii) be replaced with the following language:
“Supporting the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in the implementation of anti-bias programming and community conversations, as requested by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.”
Be it further resolved, that Article VIII, Section 2 of the Bylaws be amended by deleting the current sentence:
“The training will be facilitated by the Campus Pulse Committee and contain at least the following topics:” (Bylaws lines 751–752)
Be it further resolved, that Article VIII, Section 2 of the Bylaws be amended by replacing the current sentence with:
“The training shall be developed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and administered in accordance with the procedures set forth in this Section.”
Be it further resolved, that the following language be added to Article VIII, Section 2 immediately following the provision above:
“The Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion shall present the completed training to the Executive Cabinet at its first meeting of each academic year. Following presentation to the Executive Cabinet, the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion shall distribute the completed training materials to all Student Assembly committee chairs. Each committee chair shall administer the annual anti-bias and transparency training during the committee’s first meeting of the academic year and shall facilitate a discussion regarding the training and its relevance to the committee’s work.”
Be it further resolved, that the following language be added to Article VIII, Section 2:
“Each committee shall document the administration and completion of the annual anti-bias and transparency training in its meeting minutes, including the date on which the training was administered. The Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Chair of the Campus Pulse Committee shall review committee meeting minutes to confirm completion of the training by each committee.”
Be it further resolved, that Article III, Section 7, item 3 of the Bylaws be amended to read:
“3. Prepare and facilitate the annual anti-bias and transparency training for the Executive Cabinet and oversee its further administration by committee chairs.”
Be it further resolved, that the existing subject-matter requirements in Article VIII, Section 2.A–E, including recognizing implicit bias, the importance of diversity in Student Assembly work, working with stakeholders, transparency with the Cornell community, and appropriate channels for reporting bias and harassment, shall remain unchanged (Bylaws lines 753–759).
Be it finally resolved, that the existing provision stating that failure to complete the training is grounds for removal and that attendance shall be cataloged by the President shall remain unchanged (Bylaws lines 760–761).
