Tracy Stokol
Professor and Veterinarian
College of Veterinary Medicine
I am a Professor and veterinarian in the College of Veterinary Medicine. I obtained a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and PhD at the University of Melbourne. I then came to Cornell University as an instructor in Veterinary Clinical Pathology and obtained specialization via board-certification in this field of Veterinary Medicine. After a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University, I returned to Cornell University, where I perform diagnostic service duty as a clinical pathologist in the Animal Health Diagnostic Center, teach veterinary students, veterinarians and residents, and perform clinical and basic research. My research interests encompass hemostatic and hematopoietic diseases in animals, cancer biomarkers, and mechanisms of cancer metastasis.
Candidate Statement:
I have been involved in faculty governance at Cornell University for some time, having served for 11 years as a member and more recently the Chair of the Committee for Academic Freedom and Professional Status of the Faculty. I also served a 6-year term on the Faculty Senate as a senator for my Department at the Veterinary College. In these roles, I have come to appreciate the depth and breadth of the faculty at our institution, who bring unique perspectives and thoughtful discussion to items at hand and the constant challenges that come our way.
Moving forward into these uncertain times, it is becoming increasingly important for faculty to be able to exercise academic freedom and continue to be engaged in and have a voice in University governance. I believe in open, honest, and constructive communication and, as Associate Dean of Faculty, I would be a strong advocate for faculty across the University, in addition to providing a perspective from the land grant colleges.
