Hi, my name is Jack Gewanter, I’m a government major in the College of Arts and Sciences, and I’m running for Freshman Representative. I would like to help support student-run businesses on campus. On a sizable campus, there are plenty of students who are entrepreneurially-minded, but there is little support in place for these students to go through with their ventures. Currently, student-run businesses spread by word of mouth, often if someone is looking for a particular good or service. Either that or someone is doing their own promotion to their often-limited social circles. Through the current model, it is hard for one of these such businesses to attain a spotlight. We should create a centralized online location through which students can promote their businesses easily, and give all information they want to in a method that is endorsed and supported by the university. This would include for each business the specific services that they provide, the prices, and reviews so that those looking to pay for a service can see the reliability of a business. My goal is for students to have a framework to aid them in their entrepreneurial ventures.
