Dear Andy,

Thank you for conveying to me GPSA Resolution 8: A Resolution to Adopt the Graduate and Professional Community Initiative. I know that preparing this document required many hours of hard work, and I appreciate the foundation it lays for strategic progress in the coming years. It is especially helpful to have a clear sense of the GPSA’s priorities, which can serve as guideposts for the many campus partners and stakeholders who will be involved in advancing these goals.

Transformational changes, such as those envisioned in the areas of mental health support or diversity and inclusion, require sustained efforts over many years. The ideas and requests you have outlined in the 2020 GPCI document will be shared among a number of offices, committees, and working groups who are focused on many of these areas. I anticipate that they will work to merge your proposed actions into progress currently underway on each of the eight topics that you have addressed.

In accepting this resolution, I am asking Kathryn Boor, incoming vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School, to regularly report on the status of progress toward these goals. She will meet with GPSA leadership frequently and can discuss progress at those times. I also encourage GPSA members to serve on the committees and working groups that will be responsible for implementing these ideas. The outcomes are always better when student voices and perspectives are included.

I appreciate the efforts of Alexa and all who contributed to this work. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Martha Pollack
