    Dear Ava and Erika,

Thank you for conveying UA R3: University Assembly Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion and EA R2: A Call for Recommitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I am grateful for the Assemblies’ engagement with and support of our Cornell community, and appreciate the UA’s representation on behalf of all constituencies at Cornell, as well as the EA’s efforts to represent our employees, who have such a tremendous positive impact on our students and university environment.

In my February 21, 2025 statement on Cornell’s guiding principles, I affirmed Cornell’s commitment to “diversity as a driver of our excellence” and indicated that “none of the recent federal guidance limits the academic freedom of our community to research or study any subject, our ability to exercise free expression within a safe and respectful community, or our ability to adhere to the principles outlined [in the statement].” I also affirmed our commitment to “ensuring equal opportunity for all of our students, faculty, and staff, without regard to race, gender, or any other characteristic protected by law.”

As outlined in the message, Cornell continues to share information about changes in the federal landscape that affect our work at a central website. We will continue to advance our mission of learning, discovery, and engagement while upholding Cornell’s core values and following our guiding principles.

Thank you to the Assemblies for all you do to support our community.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Kotlikoff
