    Dear Wendy,

Thank you for conveying  EA R2: Staff Inclusion on University Committees and Reviews. I appreciate the Employee Assembly’s commitment to shared governance and interest in ensuring that the perspectives of staff members are represented on university committees and reviews.

Thoughtful consideration was given to the makeup of the committees on Institutional Voice, the Future of the American University, and the Code and Procedures Review Committee (CPRC) and will continue to be given for future committees. The membership has been established, and the work of the current committees is either well underway or nearing completion.

The task force on Institutional Voice released draft recommendations on October 8. As they shared, “More than 150 faculty, staff, and students participated over the course of six listening sessions, while 207 respondents submitted written input through a questionnaire, and 45 respondents contributed feedback through a dedicated email address.” They continued to welcome feedback on the draft recommendations from all community members through November 15, 2025, via email tfiv@cornell.edu or through an anonymous feedback link, and after presenting to the EA at the 12/3 meeting, extended the deadline for feedback through the following week.

The Future of the American University (FAU) committee is engaging with staff, as well as students and alumni, and is already empaneling expert groups of each to provide insight and feedback to FAU subcommittees on key topics of interest. They have held a staff town hall attended by 250 people and will be joining the February 4 Employee Assembly meeting. The committee is eager to gather ideas and perspectives from staff that will constructively shape a vision for the future of Cornell and the American university.

With regard to the Student Code of Conduct review, as this code governs the conduct of students, the Code requires representation from the Undergraduate Student Assembly (SA) and Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GPSA). Both the SA and GPSA President serve on the committee this year and have made recommendations on SA and GPSA representation for future years. Additionally, there are multiple staff members serving on the CPRC. They are student-facing staff members and/or staff who have direct experience with and understanding of the Student Code of Conduct. The committee will also hold a listening session with the Employee Assembly on January 27.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Kotlikoff
