Dear Zora,
Thank you for conveying to me SA Resolution 10: Enhancing Campus Safety. I appreciate the Student Assembly’s interest in the safety and well-being of our students. Training on using Narcan is encouraged for community members who are interested, and if students would like to participate in such training, they can reach out to the CUPD Training Unit by contacting Sgt. Tostanoski at ajt26@cornell.edu to schedule a session.
As mentioned in the resolution, Narcan is available 24/7 for free in the Self-Care Vending Machine in Cornell Health. Narcan is also available by request at the Cornell Health pharmacy. As another resource, New York state also offers free online and in person training and access to Narcan.
I ask that the sponsors of Resolution 10 work through the SA Student Health Committee to discuss their goals and ways to educate residential community members about the various ways to access and administer Narcan with Julie Edwards, assistant vice president for health and wellness; Jennifer Austin, the incoming director of the Skorton Center for Health Initiatives; and Abby Priehs, the Director of Residential Life.
Sincerely,
Mike Kotlikoff
