    Dear Zora,

Thank you for conveying Resolution 21: Approving the Recommendation for the 2026-2028 Student Activity Fee. I appreciate the Assembly’s interest in providing support for our student groups and activities. However, I must reject the proposed increase to the student activity fee. An increase of $52 per student represents a significant impact on the budgets of our colleges, which absorb some or all of the activity fee cost for students who receive financial aid.

As we seek to ensure the university’s long-term financial sustainability, our colleges and schools are working to reduce costs while preserving Cornell’s excellence, advancing our core mission, and providing a supportive community of belonging for our students, faculty, and staff. At this time of financial challenges and changes to the higher education landscape, this increase in the activity fee cannot be absorbed by the colleges and schools.

I ask that the Student Assembly revise the proposed 2026-2028 fee to match the 2025-2026 fee of $424 in recognition of these challenges.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Kotlikoff
