Dear Cat,As you know, Joe conveyed to me Student Assembly Resolution 30: Urging Cornell University to Contribute Financial Support for the Summer 2020 Student Contribution Pilot Program. While the Student Contribution Pilot Program was included in a planned package of financial aid reforms that were scheduled for presentation and review by the Board of Trustees, the pandemic emergency forced the university to shift focus toward other, more urgent financial aid priorities. As you may have seen, the university announced a grant commitment of $8.5 million, $7.5 million of which was dedicated to offset the loss of anticipated summer income.I hope we will be able to return to the financial aid reform questions soon, but that will depend on how students’ financial need—in some cases driven by the pandemic recession—evolves in the current year and possibly in years beyond.Sincerely,Martha PollackMartha E.
