    Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 36, Divestment from Coal: Toward a Sustainable Endowment, with me. As the Student Assembly does not have legislative authority over this area, I am interpreting this as a sense of the body resolution.

I appreciate the Student Assembly’s ongoing concern for sustainability and Cornell’s role in it, as well as your recommendations expressed in this resolution. As I have said earlier, Cornell has no plans in the foreseeable future to divest from direct holdings or co-mingled funds in the fossil fuels industry. That said, you also know from A.J. Edwards, our chief investment officer, that we currently have no investments in coal and have made that quite public.

Thank you, also for submitting Resolution 44, Changes to SAFC Guidelines, with me. I do not have any issues with the changes made, and thus approve this resolution.

    Regards,

    David
