Whereas, undergraduate students can access valuable educational and career-related experiences during their winter breaks and other terms beyond the Summer break (i.e. short-term travel experiences, faculty-led experiences),
Whereas, the Summer Experience Grant is administered and reviewed separately by the Central Career Services Offices,
Whereas, undergraduate students can currently receive up to $5,000 from the Student Assembly Summer Experience Grant to complete unpaid or minimally paid career-related experiences for Summer experiences only,
Whereas, the Student Assembly Reserve Account currently holds over $500,000 as of January 2026,
Whereas, Article VI, Section 1, lines 291-292 of the Bylaws of the Student Assembly states:
Committees will be established with the adoption of a committee charge to be included in these Bylaws. A committee’s charge must be adopted and placed in these Bylaws before its bylaws are to be considered. Committee bylaws shall be adopted with a majority vote,
Be it therefore resolved, the Student Assembly shall create a Year-Round Experience Grant open to all Cornell Undergraduate students for educational or career-related experiences that take place at any time throughout the year,
Be it further resolved, the Student Assembly designates $100,000 from the Student Assembly Reserve Account to fund the Year-Round Experience Grant,
Be it further resolved, applications for the Grant can be submitted and reviewed on a rolling basis,
Be it further resolved, that the Bylaws of the Student Assembly, Article VI, Section 2, be amended to add subsection M as follows to establish the Year-Round Grant Committee:
M. Year-Round Grant Committee
a. Charge: The Year-Round Grant Committee shall receive, and review Grant applications as well as award funding to qualified applicants based upon financial need and relevance of the experience. The standing committee shall determine its own internal application process and requirements for applicants. The committee shall convene at least once per month to review student applications and render decisions. The committee shall report their application decisions to the Student Assembly on a monthly basis. The Student Assembly shall approve application decisions by a majority vote.
b. Membership: Membership to be selected by the Assembly.
c. Chair: Chair to be elected by the Assembly.
Be it finally resolved, that the Year-Round Grant Committee shall begin convening and accepting applications in the Fall semester 2026-2027.
