Whereas, a recent pattern of inflated sponsorship lists on resolutions, including significant participation from non-elected community members, making resolutions administratively unwieldy and cluttering the legislative record,
Whereas, Student Assembly representatives are elected by their constituencies to advocate for and represent student interests within the campus governance structure,
Whereas, the Student Assembly Charter establishes that voting members are responsible for examining matters of student concern and making proposals on behalf of their constituencies,
Whereas, maintaining sponsor lists limited to elected representatives strengthens the institutional integrity of the Assembly and ensures that legislative action can be clearly traced to the members accountable to the student body,
Be it therefore resolved, that effective immediately, resolutions presented to the Student Assembly may only be sponsored by voting or non-voting members of the Student Assembly,
Be it further resolved, that an exception shall be made for members of Student Assembly Committees acting in their official committee capacity, who may jointly sponsor resolutions relevant to their committee work, though there must be at least one voting Assembly member sponsor,
Be it finally resolved, that the Assembly shall require all resolutions to henceforth list only eligible sponsors.
