    Dear Juliana,

    Thank you for sharing Resolution 41 with me. I appreciate the interest of the Student Assembly in improving sustainability for the Memorial Room, and am happy to report that Infrastructure Properties and Planning (IPP) already is conducting, in partnership with NYSEG, a multi-year campus wide LED lamp retrofit project that will result in the replacement of approximately 250,000 lamps. Electrical energy use should be reduced by over 11 million kilowatt hours annually and by 2.5 megawatts for peak demand. This campus-wide project is estimated to save $900,000 per year in electrical utility costs and 5000 tons of CO2 emissions.

    Plans are in place to replace the existing lamps in the Memorial Room as well as throughout Willard Straight Hall by June 30, 2016. The estimated impact from this effort includes:

    · Electrical energy reduction of over 13,600 kilowatt hours per year and 6 tons of CO2 emissions per year;
    · Annual savings of approximately $950 in electrical utility cost;
    · 2-10 times increase in life expectancy of lamps; and
    · Increased light levels throughout the building

    Sincerely,

    Michael Kotlikoff
    Acting President
