    Dear Zora,

Thank you for conveying SA R59: Implementing Comprehensive Nutritional Labeling in Cornell Dining Halls. I appreciate the SA’s interest in providing nutritional and ingredient information to our community. I’ve asked my colleagues at Cornell Dining to address the suggestions and concerns raised in the resolution.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Kotlikoff

As noted in the Resolution, comprehensive nutritional and ingredient information is available on NetNutrition for many of Cornell Dining's retail units, and we continue to work toward adding more units to this resource, which enables diners to seek out information if they choose to do so.

Cornell Dining leadership is open to further conversations with students about the complexities of adding nutritional and ingredient information to food labels within Cornell dining halls. For example, studies have shown that menu labels identifying calories at point of service is associated with worsened eating disorder behaviors.

If students with Student Disability Services-approved medical needs require access to nutrient and/or ingredient information, they are able to work directly with our team of dietitians to get access to the information they need. The USDA has a comprehensive database. which is a great resource for estimating nutrition information for the many whole foods served in our dining units. Additionally, the Nutrition office is actively working on a project to improve signage for NetNutrition in our retail units.

We encourage the SA, or the SA Dining Committee, to reach out to the Cornell Dining Nutrition Office to learn more details. A team of students work in the Cornell Dining Nutrition Office supporting a variety of projects. We welcome a future collaboration between this team and the Student Assembly.
