Student Assembly - Resolution 69 (2025-2026)

Urging Cornell to Support Higher TCAT Funding

  • Term:
    2025-2026
  • Assembly:
  • Status: In Discussion
  • Abstract: This resolution urges Cornell University to support TCAT in its future negotiations, recognizing that it currently contributes insufficient funds and regularly imposes destructive fines on TCAT. Cornell must provide a significant funding increase to TCAT to ensure reliable transit for students, faculty, and staff, as well as to secure affordable to free bus passes for students.

Whereas, Cornell University contributes 15% of the budget for TCAT, despite the fact that 70% of TCAT’s service is provided to Cornell,

Whereas, Cornell University regularly penalizes TCAT for inadequate services caused by its own poor funding, which has made TCAT’s ability to service Cornell even more difficult,

Whereas, Cornell students need the TCAT’s services and are plagued by late and unreliable buses caused by inadequate funding,

Whereas, other universities contribute more to their local transit systems, allowing them to obtain free buses for all undergraduate students of all years during all hours of the day,

Be it therefore resolved, Cornell University must commit to a substantial increase in funding in its future negotiations with TCAT, including in the 2026 Service Level Agreement and Transportation agreements,

Be it further resolved, Cornell University must commit to drastically reducing the penalties it imposes on TCAT for failing to meet service hour levels,

Be it finally resolved, Cornell University must make every reasonable effort to—during Service Level Agreement negotiations—provide TCAT with adequate resources to cover free bus passes for all Cornell undergraduate students and graduate workers.
