Dear Irene,
My thanks to you and Ava and the UA for conveying UA R2: Supporting Universal Access to Menstrual Products. I appreciate the UA’s interest in advancing access to menstrual products for our community.
Menstrual products are at present provided free of charge in some buildings, including Cornell Health. Funds from the Student Assembly and the Gender Justice Advocacy Coalition (GJAC), a byline-funded student organization, provided some campus spaces with free products in the past. I understand that the funding GJAC had for this effort has been spent and there are no resources to continue these free offerings. Cornell is not required to provide these products.
Cornell cannot provide university funding for this effort, but the Student Assembly, and other organizations, are welcome to use their resources if this is a priority for student leadership with the understanding that future Assemblies may have other priorities and could decide to pull funding. Students in need or who have financial barriers to purchasing personal care supplies can apply to the Access Fund for support.
Sincerely,
Michael Kotlikoff
