    Dear Irene,

Thank you for conveying UA R3: Institution of Core Values as a Positive Governance Document. I acknowledge receipt and appreciate the Assembly’s interest in ensuring all Cornell community members understand expectations around community interactions, and thank the Assembly for taking a proactive role in fostering knowledge and acceptance of our Core Values statement.

As I stated at the December UA meeting, Cornell adopted the core values as principles that underlie everything that we do as a community. While it is not a contractual relationship with students or faculty or staff, Cornell’s leadership agrees strongly that our Core Values statement should serve as a foundation for our shared community.

Going forward I will work with Cornell leadership to enhance the acknowledgment of this shared commitment to each other, including providing the Core Values as part of welcoming new students, and the onboarding process of all new Cornell faculty and staff.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Kotlikoff
