Dear Irene,
I acknowledge receipt of UA R4: University Assembly Authority to Appoint Members to Governance Committees.
University Policy 4.1: Formulation and Issuance of University Policies defines a stakeholder as an “[i]ndividual, function, or organization . . . whose university role or professional expertise relates to the subject of the policy, and who, therefore, is consulted for comment on its draft.” In the Policy 4.1 process, the Responsible Executive(s) under whose jurisdiction the proposed policy falls will designate the Responsible Office for the proposed policy. Those officials determine key stakeholders to provide feedback on proposed policies, including the University Assembly or another assembly where appropriate.
The UA’s charter provides that the university shall consider including the Assembly or a constituent assembly as a stakeholder under Policy 4.1, and I am happy to confirm that the university remains committed to the shared governance process that Responsible Executive(s) and Responsible Offices will consider the UA for inclusion as a stakeholder whenever appropriate, in accordance with Policy 4.1 and the UA Charter.
Sincerely,
Michael Kotlikoff
